INDIAN MICA PAINTINGS (RED)

£85.00

A stunning collection of four antique Indian mica paintings from the mid-19th-century. These delicate pieces would have been painted using thick gouache on traditional mica paper (thin, transparent mineral sheets made widely throughout southern India).

Indian Mica paintings were traditionally produced in sets for the colonial tourist market, imitating European glass paintings which were popular at the time. Artists tended to depict Hindu gods, religious events, trades-people and local flora & fauna.

I’ve framed this charming set of tradesmen in bespoke, hand-painted wooden frames with patterned, wallpaper-covered mounts and float glass. The paintings show a Stool Maker, Grass Cutter, Bearer with Boxes and a Table Servant Making Butter. Each has been framed with their original handwritten inscription.

Framed size: 27 × 22cm, ready to hang. Please note that these are vintage paintings and so a few of the images have imperfections in accordance with their age.
